‘Refugee Camp’ wins innovative language award at ARES

The 8th edition of ARES Film & Media Festival in Italy presents an award to Iranian short ‘Refugee Camp’.

The 8th edition of ARES Film & Media Festival in Italy has presented an award to Iranian short film ‘Refugee Camp’.

The ARES Award for Innovative Language went to ‘Refugee Camp’, directed by Saeed Naghavian from Iran, the event’s website reported last week.

“The director was very original and innovative while using a technology quite simple (a camera and a paint), a film without the need for the camera but only the video monitor; a virtual space, a working environment with all work tools; an idea that works with and by means of the whole desktop,” the website wrote.

It also admired the Iranian short film as “a graphic film with a very strong message and present.”

Naghavian’s production has taken part in several international film festivals so far, receiving a number of awards, including Best Human Right Short Film at the Pink City Short Film Festival in India, and Best Ad Short Film at the Sound and Image Challenge International Festival in Macau.

The international section of the ARES event presented the Award for Best Film to ‘Jazz Etude’, by Elena Gladkova from Russia; Award for Social Responsibility to ‘Le Cimetière des Marionnettes’, by Elena Molina from Spain and Burkina Faso; Award for Analysis of Contemporary to ‘Gyes’, by Duygu Nazlı Akova from Turkey; and a special mention to ‘Postcard to Godzilla’, by Louis Fried from Germany.

ARES Film & Media Festival is aimed at planning and implementing activities that integrate economy, culture, art and society and are innovative in products and processes.

The 8th edition of the Italian event came to a conclusion in the city of Siracusa on December 28, 2017.
